Two talented students from MAN 4 Jakarta, Ghifran Majid and Muhammad Syamil, have won the gold medal at the prestigious Kompetisi Sains Siswa Muslim Indonesia (KoSSMI) 2024. Their winning entry, titled “PORTAGUARD (Smart Portable Emission Monitor),” is an innovative device designed to detect vehicle emissions, focusing on detecting harmful gasses such as Hydrocarbon (HC) and Carbon Monoxide (CO). This invention aims to provide an efficient and accessible solution for monitoring and managing vehicular pollution, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Ghifran and Syamil’s journey began with a shared passion for science and a commitment to addressing environmental issues. As students at MAN 4 Jakarta, they were encouraged to pursue scientific research that could lead to practical solutions for real-world problems. Their project was conceived as a response to the growing concern over air pollution and vehicle emissions. The duo spent countless hours researching and developing their device, inspired by the idea of creating a tool that could help reduce air pollution. Their dedication and hard work led to their participation in KoSSMI, where their project was evaluated by a team of experts in science and technology.

During the KoSSMI competition, Ghifran and Muhammad impressed judges and audiences alike with their presentation on PORTAGUARD. They demonstrated how the device works and its potential applications, showing how it could transform emission monitoring practices nationwide. Their  advocacy for cleaner air is impactful, earning them the admiration of peers and experts in attendance.

Beyond their victory, Ghifran and Syamil’s achievement serves as an inspiration to fellow students and innovators in the future. Their success underscores the importance of nurturing curiosity, creativity, and collaboration in scientific adventure.

As we celebrate their success, let Ghifran Majid and Muhammad Syamil inspire us all to use our creativity and intellect for the good of our planet. Together, we can build a sustainable future for generations to come—one invention, one idea, and one gold medal at a time.
