Jakarta, Indonesia – Athaya Naura, Rayyan Abdullah, Bagoes Satrio, Autumn Rose, and Nafisha Ganes, students of MAN 4 Jakarta, has made an amazing accomplishment for Indonesia by achieving a silver medal at the International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) 2024. The research project titled “Mass Media and Young Offenders: Problem Resolution in Media Content Analysis” has earned them a silver medal.
Their project explores how and does mass media affect young offenders. The team drew inspiration from many recent cases, involving underaged children & teens whose criminal behaviour were influenced by the content they consume on social media, such as violence and pornography. After some research, they found that mass media isn’t the only cause, however, other factors such as lack of socialization, digital ethics, law injustice, and peer pressure also plays a big part in influencing minors’ criminal actions.
For their research, they gathered data using content analysis by scrapping from 5 national media portals, where they searched for keywords related to the topic of research. On this process, they had to be very careful in finding news that are relevant, before eventually comparing it. After collecting data and writing their research, they made a presentation which they presented for the competition online through zoom.
ISIF was the first event organized by IYSA in 2019. 2024 became the 6th year IYSA organized ISIF and had a large number of participants. At the 2024 event, there were around 973 teams from 24 countries who participated in this event both online and offline. By achieving the silver medal, they have proven their hard work and has gained another amazing achievement by MAN 4 Jakarta students.
